Ice Rink Drawings
The Project Group have carried out detailed investigations into the capital costs of constructing a new dedicated curling facility which have ranged from £800,000 to £2.4 million according to size of ice pad (4-6 sheets), ancillary accommodation, type of site, refrigeration and method of construction.
The group have tendered a 4-sheet facility built to a standard of Regional Training Centre requirements and the fully equipped cost will be £1.54 million if built to a functional, simple & comfortable standard.
As energy use is the single largest running cost of a rink, energy efficient technology will be used in the construction to safeguard the profitability of the rink in future years. The construction of the building will also use green technology where possible to reduce the carbon footprint of the rink.
The capital cost would hopefully be funded in the main by a Sportscotland “Sports Facilities Fund” grant of £750,000. The application process for this grant is ongoing.
We have targeted a total of £250,000 that must be raised by the Curlers themselves in the form of members donations (& gift aid), fundraising, corporate sponsorship and local charitable trusts & funds.
The additional funding required would come from a combination of commercial lending and soft loans from organisations such as World Curling federation or the Sports Foundation combined with a range of Charitable Trusts and grants for community projects, health & inclusion projects and installation of energy efficient technology that could provide further funding. Commercial borrowing will be required but shall be kept at the minimum level possible.
