History Of Curling
Curling in Fife has a long history and is Scotland’s second national sport after Golf. The game has been played since the mid 1600’s with some of the present curling clubs being over 250 years old. The sport has developed over the years and curlers are no longer dependant on the vagaries of the Scottish weather to freeze their curling ponds, although many local clubs still maintain their outdoor ponds and on occasion do get the opportunity to play the “roarin” game in that unique and special way.
The game is now played in 76 countries worldwide and is a full Olympic sport. Curling in Scotland is growing in stature and demand and is Britain’s most successful winter sport with numerous World & European Champions and Olympic medallists (including gold) over the years.
